Thanks Mom!!!

Scott and I want to thank my mom for all of the help she has provided over the weeks. The plan was for her to come and stay for three weeks when the babies were born. With Tyler staying in the NICU for a month, that kind of threw our plans out of wack. She did stay for two weeks when Alyson came home and then came back down last week when Tyler came home. She was a huge help. She cooked, cleaned, gave bottles, changed diapers, and took many night shifts of sleepless children. She even left with Scott’s cold!! Our house never looked so good. haha

We greatly appreciated all the help and the babies already miss being cuddled by you!!

Busy & Sleep Deprived

Whew, time sure flies by caring for three young ones! It is amazing how much of a difference there is from one to two babies. Many will say yea, what are you stupid, of course they are going to be a lot of work. But, I have to say:

1 baby = yay amount of work
2 babies does not equal 1 baby + 1 baby

It is more like 2 babies = (1 + 1) x 3.2

We definitely need to guilt grandma into staying for another five months. So if anyone wants to come help, we welcome you with open arms. The 12 am to 6 shift is wide open!

Both of the babies were weighed today. Tyler came in at 8 lb 10 ounces. Alyson came in big at 7 lb 7 ounces.

31 Days…

Thirty-one days and the little guy is finally home! It is amazing how fast the time  went by and to think we made it to the hospital every single day since mommy and Alyson were discharged so long ago.  We had a wonderful victory lap as we rolled down the hallways for hopefully the last time!

Tyler did not mind his car seat at all

We would of had more pictures to show but of course as well as mommy and daddy were prepared, our batteries died in the camera.  If every darn toy didn’t require batteries we might have some spares around here. We just had a 16 or 20 pack of AA’s just the other week.

Down the Hill we go…

Well, I hate to say to much, we are getting so much closer than we ever have, so I am expecting some sort of bad turn here soon. But, things are looking great! TYLER IS AT FULL FEEDINGS! Now he needs to maintain these for the next couple days for us to take him home.  He did get his PICC line out while we were there tonight. So one more step closer!

We can now put a hat on him again, cover up that haircut of his.

Alyson is doing good as usual, she is sleeping when she shouldn’t, and pooping so much she makes up for Tyler not being home.

Jayden gets cuter and cuter everyday. He is saying more and more each day. My favorite was the time I was driving down the road coming from daycare and he was telling me “go fast” “go fast”. I have no idea where he got this from.

2/24/09

Tyler’s feedings began again on Sunday at 20 mls and they began increasing the amounts yesterday. Yesterday they increased his feedings by 10 mls every 6 hours until he got back to 45 mls. Today, they are increasing his feedings by 5 mls every 6 hours until he reaches his max amount of 75 mls, which I believe should be by Wednesday evening. He has to take the complete 75 mls by bottle for 48 hours with no problems before he can come home. If everything goes well and there are no more issues the nurse actually stated that is is possible he could come home this weekend. This is the first time anyone has made a “prediction” as to when he may be discharged. She did say she doesn’t like to say that because you never know what could happen. Scott and I are both hesitant to think things could actually go well and there won’t be any glitches to this. Lets keep our fingers crossed that he keeps sucking down his milk and doesn’t decide to have any more difficulties!!

2/22/09 update

Tyler was started back on his feedings today, but they restarted him at 20 mls. He was at 45 I believe before they stopped him. They also detected a heart murmer which they are saying shouldn’t be problematic. They moved Tyler to a big boy bed, it’s actually a mini crib. Scott said it reminds him of an insane asylum. We also got to give Tyler a bath for the first time. It was a sponge bath, but still a first for us. He seemed to enjoy it. Tyler was very awake and alert while we visited today. He wanted more food than what he was given, so we felt bad for him.

It appears as if little Alyson is getting my cold. She is sneezing and congested. Hopefully it doesn’t turn into anything more!!

Tyler and Alyson update

Scott and I visited Tyler this afternoon. We were informed that Tyler’s feedings were stopped today as his belly was distended. X-rays show he is full of gas. They don’t want to push anything so they stopped feeding him until his abdomen gets back to normal. They will take another x-ray at 6:00 am. Hopefully everything looks better and they can start back up with his feedings tomorrow.

Tyler is up to 8 lbs already. He is a big boy now and has gained almost two pounds. Alyson had a doctor’s appointment on Wednesday and she is up to 6 lbs. She still looks so tiny, especially compared to Tyler. Alyson has been pretty fussy today, which is unusual for her. Hopefully this is just an isolated incident and she isn’t like this often.

More drama

As some of you have already heard, I ended up having a post partum hemorrhage Wednesday night. Scott and I ended up in the ER at 10:30 at night and I was waiting for surgery at 1:30 am. Everything went well and the doctor was able to stop my bleeding. There was talk this morning about more surgery, but luckily that didn’t have to occur. I ended up having to have a blood transfusion due to my loss of blood. I have felt a lot better since the transfusion. I was very lucky to be discharged from the hospital tonight, even after developing an allergic reaction to the antibiotic I was given.

Tyler has…

Pooped again! Twice!

I was just about to call in Uncle Brandt to do his magic, but it looks like my magic trick I did last night did the trick. He has responded every time I performed a magic trick, I should start charging for my services!

So back to the same old waiting game. Feedings are at 25 mls. We need to now get to 70 mls. We are getting a little aggravated at the pace but maybe it will pick up due to these latest happenings. - Scott
